Norethisterone may reduce the amount of menstrual blood lost during a heavy flow or prolonged period. It may also relieve pain that occurs regularly during menstruation or during painful procedures, such as aspiration surgery to remove undescended ovaries or uterus. In some women with endometriosis, norethisterone may help ease severe pelvic pain by reducing inflammation and other symptoms.
